Website Garners Third Place in District Competition

Webmaster Derick Sturke and Graphics Ace Bill Camp proudly display the Third Place award banner

The Oakdale Sunrise Rotary Club's website, in its first year and built by a rookie web designer, was awarded Third Place in the District 5220 Web Site Competition. Said Bill Camp, Sunrise Founder and owner of Bill Camp Graphics:  "Wow, I get to do another e-flier!"  Sturke, an insomniac who uses his late night awakens to learn more about computers and the web muttered:  "Huh?  There was a competition?  Not bad for a hack amateur armed with an out- of-market copy of MS Front Page and a P2 Win98 Gateway!"  As a reward of sorts, Sturke replaced the Gateway with a brand spankin' new refurbished Dell P4 model still running MS XP.  "The sturdy old Gateway finally bit the dust, and as of this writing, I am trying to see if all the stuff on my old hard drive is salvageable.  I learned my lesson about backing up my computer!!!"

Saturday, June 16th, at the lovely Milsap Manse, the Oakdale Sunrise Rotary Club became the Oakdale SunRay's Rotary Club, now led by Ray Leverett.  The fun evening, featured wonderful barbecued tri-tip and chicken cooked up by hosts John and Esther Milsap.  Awards were given, gavels passed and all who attended had a great time. Immediate Past President Don Gayaldo was sworn in as the very first Sergeant at Arms for our club, and the evening concluded with an hilarious video presentation on Don's Presidency cooked up by Ray and Past President Bill Camp. click here for a gallery of photos

Randy Returns!

2005 - 2006 President Randy Basi hosted the July 6th meeting as the holiday "broken up week" gave us a light turnout and neither President Ray or IPP Don was in attendance.  Randy updated us on the Wave Of Hope Golf Tourney and a few more of our activities.  Great to have you at the podium, again, Randy!

District 5220 Assembly Report

Apparently, the message emanated from the podium at the District 5220 Assembly was that of "Understand and Emulate Your President".  To that end, attendees Bill Camp, Chris Hempleman, John Milsap spend much of the breakout time with incoming President Ray Leverett.  For a report of the first new Presidential move, click here

Website Reporter Wanted

The website will begin a new area coming soon.  That of following up with our guest speakers.  This follow- up will include a short summary of the presentation, and information on the programs he might be talking about.  For example,  as a follow up to David Walker's talk on April 20th,  I can put together a reference and links to the Alternate Dispute Resolution Program.  Or put together references for Camp Royal from the previous week's presentation.
All I need is one willing volunteer to scribble a few sentences on a breakfast napkin and make sure I get them.  (Preferably, typed out and sent via e-mail, but I will take it any way I can get it!)
Please consider this small task as a part of your Rotary Club commitment.

If you can help out on this one, please e-mail me:

Among our gifts to the community was our funding of the marquee sign in the front of the new Sierra View Elementary School.  Dr. Wendell Chun, Superintendent of Oakdale Public Schools, thanked us for both this sign and our recent donation of $7,000.00 to Oakdale Schools music programs.  We were honored to have Dr. Chun at our meeting Friday, March 31st.
